New retailer at Raleigh’s North Hills, a cookie chain expands + a year round Christmas shop

Move over, Christmas in July. It’s time for Christmas year-round.

The thought of seeing Santa and snowmen in March may conjure comforting thoughts of holiday magic for some. For others, it’s not sleigh bells they’ll hear, but sirens.

Regardless, Raleigh will soon be home to a store — open all year — specializing in Christmas.

The business is from Bridget Jadwick, who owns Cheshire Cat Antique Gallery, located in a basement space at Village District, which was formerly known as Cameron Village.

Jadwick is taking over the space that currently houses Antiques Emporium, which is expected to close in September. Along with a Christmas room, Jadwick plans to have an area where dealers — including some who currently operate out of Antiques Emporium — can sell their goods, she told The News & Observer.

Here’s what else is happening with retail in the Triangle.

Christmas store returns to Crabtree

The Christmas room at Village District is planned to be open all year. But a different store at Raleigh’s Crabtree will only open for a limited time.

A Christmas to Remember is returning to the popular Raleigh mall.

Shoppers will find ornaments, decorations, string light sets, collectibles, wreaths, stockings, nativities, trees and other items.

The store will be housed in the former Madewell on the second level at the mall, Debora Overholt, the general manager at Crabtree, told The News & Observer in an email. A Christmas to Remember is transforming the space into “a winter wonderland.” No opening date has been announced.

Another new Crabtree tenant: Chubbies, a retailer known for men’s short-shorts, opened a store Aug. 17 on the Raleigh shopping center’s upper level.

Morrisville’s Park West Village, a 100-acre mixed-use development, is home to retailers including Trader Joe’s, Target, PetSmart and soon, Nordstrom Rack.

Nordstrom Rack to open another Raleigh-area store

The sister brand of Seattle-based Nordstrom has already revealed expansion plans across North Carolina and in the Triangle. And this week, Nordstrom Rack announced it is adding another store in the Raleigh area.

Morrisville’s Park West Village will be home to Nordstrom Rack by spring 2025. The retailer is also opening at Raleigh’s Triangle Town Place this fall.

Also coming to Park West Village: Triangle mom Sujatha Jetty is opening her first Pigtails & Crewcuts franchise, eyeing an October or November opening.

Madewell opening soon at North Hills

Part of the J.Crew Group family of brands, Madewell is coming soon to Raleigh’s North Hills.

The store was initially expected to open last week in the Main District, but the timeline was delayed. A new opening date has not yet been announced.

Because the Crabtree location closed, this will be the company’s only Raleigh store. But it’s not the only one for the Triangle; Madewell locations are open in Durham and Cary.

Copper Penny moving to Village District

Speaking of North Hills, the district is losing a tenant.

The boutique Copper Penny, which was founded in Charleston, South Carolina, is heading to Village District. Franchise owner Kendra Dannar told The News & Observer that the lease is ending, providing an opportunity to look for a new location in the historical Raleigh shopping center and “freshen up” the store.

Shoppers can visit the new location starting Aug. 28.

Lululemon finds new home at North Hills

One more thing about North Hills.

Athleisure lovers probably know that Lululemon has a store in the Lassiter District, near Total Wine.

That location is open for now, but soon, the company will make the short move to the Main District. The new shop is expected to open in October.

Insomnia Cookies opening downtown Raleigh location

Late-night cookie cravings are real, and Insomnia Cookies knows it.

The popular company is expanding in the Triangle with a new store at 121 Fayetteville St. in downtown Raleigh. It’s coming soon, but no specific opening date has been announced.

A lot of dining developments are happening on a short stretch of Fayetteville Street. For example, just next door to the Insomnia bakery, PrimoHoagies is opening a new restaurant.

Shipping business opens in Raleigh shopping center

Sir Walter Shipping, a new business from Wake County residents Ken and Carolyn Bremer, opened last week at Raleigh’s Quail Corners.

Carolyn, who owns the jewelry store Bofeme, located at Makers Alley in North Hills, co-owns the shipping business with her husband. Ken worked in IT for two decades, holding different positions including as a contractor and later an employee for the post office.

Sir Walter Shipping offers packing and shipping services with FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service; Ken said he hopes to add UPS, too. The business also offers private mailboxes, a package-holding service, notary services and a monthly membership, which includes deals on printing, passport photos, shipping and notary services.

Find Sir Walter Shipping at 1306 E. Millbrook Road.
