Raleigh’s Village District loses an antique store, gains a year-round Christmas room
The retail options at Raleigh’s Village District are changing over the next few months.
An antique store is closing, but customers will still see some familiar faces. And a boutique currently open at North Hills is moving to the shopping center formerly known as Cameron Village.
Here’s what to expect.
Antique store closing, but another takes over
Antiques Emporium is closing in September.
Lee Dempsey, who operates R.L. Dempsey Estate Jewelry at the Village District antique store, told The News & Observer that Antiques Emporium owner Brigitte Harrington is retiring.
While Antiques Emporium will no longer exist, several dealers — including Dempsey — will continue to sell their goods at the new store.
Bridget Jadwick owns Cheshire Cat Antique Gallery, Antiques Emporium’s downstairs neighbor, and is taking over the upstairs space. It will be an extension of Cheshire Cat, Jadwick said.
She doesn’t expect the new store to be open until October, but it will include a Christmas room open year-round along with an eclectic collection of dealers selling pieces at a range of price points.
Charleston-based clothing store opens soon at Village District
A women’s boutique at Raleigh’s North Hills is moving to the Village District.
Copper Penny, which first opened in Charleston, S.C., is scheduled to open Aug. 28 at 412 Daniels St., said Kendra Dannar, Copper Penny franchise owner.
The store’s lease at North Hills is up, and Dannar said she “decided to take this as an opportunity to look for a space in the Village District and freshen up our store.”
Copper Penny sells clothing, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses and other accessories for women. It carries pieces from a range of designers, including Paige, Michael Stars, Steve Madden, Nic + Zoe, Spanx, Kenda Kist Jewelry and Dolce Vita.
At Village District, Copper Penny will take the space formerly occupied by Lori + Lulu, said Eric Davidson in an email to The News & Observer. Davidson is a senior manager of communications for Regency Centers, which owns the shopping center. Lori + Lulu, another women’s clothing store, closed earlier this year.
.
This will be the only North Carolina location for the brand, which operates in Mount Pleasant, Charleston and Greenville, all in South Carolina. Copper Penny also has a sister store called Mix, located on Charleston’s iconic King Street.
