What to know about changes to Raleigh-area Food Lions (+ Chase Banks opening soon)
Businesses offering a range of services are coming soon to the Raleigh area.
One of them, Pigtails & Crewcuts, caters to kids.
Triangle resident and mom Sujatha Jetty is the owner of the franchise — the first for the Triangle. It is expected to open around October or November in Morrisville, Jetty told The News & Observer.
The location at Park West Village, between Crumbl Cookies and GameStop, will be Pigtails & Crewcuts’ first shop in the Triangle. Pigtails & Crewcuts operates locations across the United States, including in Charlotte, Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Another North Carolina shop is opening soon in Asheville, according to the company’s website.
Jetty, whose business background is in information technology, is a mom of two kids. Her family moved to the Raleigh area last year from Pennsylvania.
“I always wanted to be an entrepreneur, you know. It’s always been my dream,” she said.
Jetty started searching for a business opportunity before COVID-19. She knew she wanted to open a business that would serve kids, but the decision to pursue a Pigtails & Crewcuts franchise didn’t come until after pandemic restrictions eased, and her family began visiting stores again.
“My son lost all his social skills,” Jetty said. “It was a nightmare.”
Her son was scared to go into stores, and forget about haircuts — he didn’t want anyone to touch him.
But while visiting friends in Texas, Jetty took her son to Pigtails & Crewcuts, and he enjoyed himself. He could see other children getting haircuts, sitting in chairs shaped like cars. There were toys and TVs playing kid-friendly shows.
She thought other parents must have gone through something similar to what she did — especially parents of kids who, like her son, were very young during the pandemic.
“I wanted something stress-free. Given my experience, I do not want anyone to go through that. So that is how I fell in love with Pigtails,” Jetty said.
Pigtails & Crewcuts’ goal to provide fun, memorable experiences for kids and parents also resonated with Jetty.
The Park West Village salon is the only one Jetty has planned for now, but she said she hopes to open additional Pigtails & Crewcuts locations in the Triangle.
Where will Pigtails & Crewcuts be located?
The first Triangle franchise will be at 1109 Market Center Drive in Morrisville.
Park West Village is home to retailers including Target, Trader Joe’s and Michaels. One of the reasons Jetty said she chose the shopping center for her first franchise was because of the “kid-centric” stores already operating at Park West Village, such as the indoor play gym We Rock the Spectrum.
