A New York-style deli will open soon in Raleigh. Info on menu + opening date

opening soon coming soon sign new business

A new dining spot from a local catering company is opening soon in downtown Raleigh.

The New York deli-style concept, Union Station Deli & Catering, is from the team behind Rocky Top Catering, led by Dean Ogan.

And veteran Triangle restaurateur Sean Degnan will be the general manager of the New York deli-style eatery, scheduled to debut Aug. 15 at Raleigh Union Station, according to a press release.

“We are excited to bring a true taste of New York to Raleigh,” Degnan said in the release. “Our goal is to provide our customers with high-quality, delicious food that transports them straight to the heart of New York City.”

In addition to serving customers on site, the new concept will offer catering for any occasion.

This marks a return to downtown Raleigh for Degnan. Degnan previously operated global fusion spot Bu.ku, which was housed for eight years in the current Red Hat building at the intersection of Davie and Wilmington streets.

He is also behind So.ca, a Latin American-focused restaurant in Village District that closed in 2022, and ko.an, an upscale Asian restaurant. Ko.an, located in the old An Cuisines space in Cary, closed in 2023 after nearly four years, The News & Observer previously reported.

“A flood of emotions returning downtown,” Degnan told The N&O in a July 30 phone call. “Even though it’s hard and even though shows like ‘The Bear’ exist, that let everyone know how hard it is, it’s still invigorating to create something out of nothing.”

Menu at Union Station Deli

Visitors to the eatery can choose from a variety of delicatessen staples:

  • Fresh-made bagels
  • Sandwiches with daily house-smoked pastrami, house-braised corned beef and chicken cutlets
  • Club sandwiches
  • Black and white cookies

“It’s just kind of the thing you want right before you hop on a train is, like, a really good bagel egg sandwich and some great coffee, and hit the road,” Degnan told The News & Observer.

The deli will open Aug. 15 at 510 W. Martin St. in Raleigh.
