This popular fried chicken chain is coming to Garner. Here’s where & when it’ll open
A fast food chain known and loved for its fried chicken is expanding in the Triangle.
Charlotte-based Bojangles is building a new restaurant at 1619 Benson Rd. in Garner (technically, right outside Garner town limits in the St. Mary’s Township, but within Garner’s planning jurisdiction). The site is along Hwy 50 near Evolve Drive, near the Treeline Timber Creek Apartments.
This location joins another in Garner, at 3920 Jones Sausage Rd. Bojangles’ online store locator says one other restaurant is in Garner, at 5497 Hwy 42, but this address is outside of the town’s limits.
The restaurant is the latest from Tri-Arc Food Systems, Inc., a local franchisee of Bojangles that owns and operates dozens of locations in the Triangle, franchisee president Tommy Haddock told The News & Observer.
When will the new Garner Bojangles open?
Haddock said he hopes construction on the new restaurant will begin by the end of the year, but the timing depends on permitting. If all goes to plan, the Benson Road Bojangles will be ready for an opening sometime in Q2 2025.
“We’re looking forward to being there,” Haddock said.
While Tri-Arc has owned the property off Benson Road for a few years, construction has not yet started on the new Bojangles. Haddock said that’s because Tri-Arc was focused on opening other Bojangles locations in Holly Springs and Wendell, projects that were already in the queue.
Bojangles named best fried chicken of fast food chains
Bojangles was founded in Charlotte in 1977. Known for its fried chicken, the chain was voted by readers of The News & Observer the best place to get fried chicken in 2023. It even beat out Beasley’s Chicken + Honey, the Raleigh restaurant from chef Ashley Christensen.
The fast food chain’s chicken goes through a 12-hour preparation process before being served to hungry customers, The N&O previously reported. Bojangles uses a “bit more aggressive seasoning” compared to other fried chicken options.
What makes Bojangles’ chicken different from other chains?
Kenny Avery, the COO of Tri-Arc, previously described Bojangles’ fried chicken to The N&O: “Having the flavor we have, it doesn’t give you the heat, but you do get the warmth, the spice flavor. We don’t do Nashville hot chicken, there’s a big difference between that and our chicken. We say ours is flavorful, not spicy.”
And it’s not just Triangle residents who love Bojangles. USA Today readers voted the North Carolina company among the top fast food restaurants serving the “most outstanding” fried chicken in the country.
