New Publix opening in Johnston County
The 48,378-square-foot store at 16100 N.C. Highway 50 North in Johnston County will open 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30. It will employ around 140 people.
A new Jersey Mike’s Subs sandwich shop is also expected to open soon at the N.C. 50/N.C. 42 intersection.
Two other grocery stores — Lowes Foods and Food Lion — are near the new Publix.
Recent Publix openings in the Triangle
The Johnston County store will open just days after the new Publix in Raleigh, located at 7330 Buffaloe Road. It’s expected to open at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27.
In May, Publix opened a location at 821 S. Main St. in Rolesville.
The grocer also plans to expand in Durham County with a new store at 4628 Guess Road.
Other grocery stores planned for Johnston County
In Johnston County’s Eastfield development, located in Selma, BJ’s Wholesale Club will open an approximately 100,000-square-foot store with an on-site gas station. It’s expected to open in spring 2026, The News & Observer previously reported.
Target is also building its first Johnston County store at Eastfield. The projected opening is spring 2026.
