Sprouts Farmers Market is expanding in the Triangle with a new store in Raleigh.

The Phoenix, Arizona-based grocer is building a new location at the Pleasant Valley Promenade shopping center on Glenwood Avenue near Pleasant Valley Road.

But shoppers will have to wait a while before visiting the new store. It isn’t expected to open until 2027, according to Triangle Business Journal, which first reported this news.

The News & Observer confirmed the early 2027 opening with Sprouts.

This will be the grocer’s third location in the Triangle, joining stores off Falls of Neuse Road at Litchford Road in Raleigh, and on NC Highway 54 near Fayetteville Road in Durham.

According to preliminary construction plans submitted to the City of Raleigh, part of the existing shopping center, including the two-story, approximately 80,000-square-foot building that houses Starbucks, will be demolished to make way for the Sprouts and two other commercial buildings — one 5,600 square feet and one 8,400 square feet.

Sprouts Farmers Market expands in North Carolina

Sprouts Farmers Market, which is known for its open floor plan and selection of natural and organic products, currently operates six stores in North Carolina. A seventh, in Charlotte, is scheduled to open in August.

The grocer had a 1% market share in the Durham-Chapel Hill area in 2024, well below Walmart, Harris Teeter and Food Lion, which dominate the local market, The N&O previously reported.

The company opened its first store in 2002, and has since expanded to 443 locations in 24 states, as of March 2025.

New grocery stores in the Triangle

Triangle shoppers can expect to get multiple new grocery store options over the next few years.

Florida-based Publix is set to open its third Raleigh location at 7330 Buffaloe Road this year. The grocer is also expanding in Durham County, with a store on Latta Road (an opening date has not been announced), and in Johnston County, with a location at 16100 N.C. Highway 50 North planned to open in 2025.

Wegmans plans to open its fifth Triangle location in Holly Springs in 2027, joining existing stores in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Chapel Hill and Cary. The store will be at N.C. Highway 55 and Ralph Stephens Road.

A new BJ’s Wholesale Club is under construction in Selma at the Eastfield development. It’s expected to open in spring 2026.

Target is adding two stores in the Triangle — one in Fuquay-Varina and the other in Selma, both expected to open in 2026.
