Harris Teeter is closing a Triangle grocery store location. Here’s where & when
Harris Teeter is closing one of its Raleigh grocery stores.
The Matthews, NC-based company, which is owned by Kroger, confirmed to The News & Observer on Tuesday, June 24, that the store at 5563 Western Blvd. in the Plaza West shopping center will close.
That store anchors the shopping center that also includes a Dollar Tree, Subway, Sonic Drive-In and Teddy’s Pizza.
A spokesperson from Harris Teeter said the company is closing five locations across various markets, including three stores in Virginia and one in Maryland.
“Harris Teeter made a strategic decision to close these locations only after careful consideration,” the statement read.
Approximately 100 to 120 people are employed at each location, the company said, and each location began informing those workers last week. The workers will be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Harris Teeter locations.
The Western Boulevard store, located near Buck Jones Road, will close “on or before July 20,” the company said.
Harris Teeter’s parent company, Kroger, announced on June 20 that it will close 60 locations over the next 18 months.
