Triangle restaurant gets ‘B’ for raw meats above ready to eat foods: Sanitation scores (Nov. 5)
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County inspection management system shows that 96 restaurant inspections were completed Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
All restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 33 restaurant inspections were completed Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Most restaurants received an A grade.
Two restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Mexico Lindo Y Querido (2103 N Roxboro St. in Durham) received a score of
score of 85% during an inspection on Nov. 4.
The restaurant was in violation of 19 standards. Of these, 12 were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included repackaged raw meats above ready to eat foods and watermelon mold and damaged on shelving.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 96% in April.
Sheraton Imperial Hotel (4700 Emperor Blvd. in Durham) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Oct. 31.
The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards. Of these, four were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included build-up on the ice machine, hash browns on buffet line seven degrees below necessary temperature and yogurt 19 degrees warmer than necessary temperature.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 91.5% in February and 98% in June 2023.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that 18 restaurant inspections were completed Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
All restaurants received an A grade.

Johnston County sanitation scores
According to a spokesperson for Johnston County, 16 food service establishment inspections were completed the week of Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
All restaurants received an A grade.
Note: At this time, a spokesperson for Johnston County confirmed to the News & Observer that their team is in the process of transitioning to a different inspection software than the one previously used (johnston-nc.health inspections.us.)
Chatham County sanitation scores
The Chatham County inspections management system shows that seven restaurant inspections were completed Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
