A coastal low is expected to move west-northwestward across North Carolina over the next few days, bringing chances of heavy rain, according to the NWS Raleigh office’s weekly briefing.

Rain may intensify Monday night, Sept. 15, and isolated instances of flash flooding may occur in parts of central North Carolina by Tuesday morning, Sept. 16.

Additional rain is expected throughout the week, though the coastal system is expected to move out of central North Carolina by the latter half of the week.

Rain expected in the Triangle

Raleigh is expected to receive up to an inch of rain by 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. By Thursday morning, Sept. 18, Raleigh could see up to 1.5 inches of rain.

The current forecast as of Monday, Sept. 15 shows Raleigh and Durham receiving about 1 inch of rain by Wednesday night.

Areas east of the Triangle are expected to see higher rainfall totals, and some places will likely receive up to 3 inches of rainfall by Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service said there is a 10% chance that areas including Wayne and Wilson counties could get up to 5 inches of rain by Wednesday evening, Sept. 17.

In that scenario, Raleigh and Durham could get between 2 and 3 inches of rain by Wednesday night.
