NC man saw flashy new purple lottery tickets and hit a jackpot, officials say

A North Carolina man saw the flashy purple tickets in a new scratch-off game, bought one and scored the first jackpot, lottery officials said.

Lenoir resident Tomas Garcia won $2 million on his $20 Power 20s ticket, according to a lottery news release on Friday.

He beat odds of 1 in 3.23 million, according to the Power 20s game page on NCLottery.com.

The game debuted on Tuesday, Oct. 3

Garcia bought his ticket at Quickway Superette on Norwood Street Southwest in Lenoir, according to the lottery.

He claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday.

He could choose between a $100,000 annuity over 20 years and a $1.2 million lump sum. After taxes, he took home $855,006 after choosing the lump sum, officials said.

Garcia didn’t tell officials what he’ll do with his big win. He couldn’t be reached by The Charlotte Observer on Saturday.

Three $2 million prizes and eight $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed in the Power 20s game.
