Mystery winner hits jackpot on a $2 ticket, North Carolina lottery officials say

Someone paid $2 for a lottery ticket at a North Carolina convenience store and left with a jackpot, lottery officials said Saturday.

The mystery winner hit the $58,397 Fast Play prize in the Jackpot 7’s game, officials said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The player bought the ticket at Sandy Ridge Mart on Sandy Ridge Road in the Guilford County community of Colfax, according to the lottery.

The winner beat odds of 1 in 320,000, according to the Fast Play game page.

Who won the jackpot remained unknown Saturday as the person hasn’t claimed the prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. Officials didn’t say when the person bought the ticket.

The player has six months to claim the prize, according to the Fast Play game page on NCLottery.com.

A player can win the jackpot in any of various $2, $5, $10 or $20 Fast Play games. The jackpot starts at $20,000 and increases until someone wins it, according to the Fast Play game page.

Tickets can be purchased from a clerk at a lottery terminal in a store and from self-serve lottery vending machines.

The jackpot stood at $246,474 Saturday nigh, according to the Fast Play page.
