Mystery winner’s $1 ticket hits jackpot at a North Carolina Food Lion, lottery says

Someone scored a $1.2 million jackpot on a $1 Cash 5 ticket bought at a North Carolina Food Lion, lottery officials said Saturday.

The winner remained a mystery Saturday morning, as no one immediately claimed the prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, officials said.

The player matched the numbers on all five balls drawn in the game Friday, according to a lottery news release.

That beat odds of 1 in 962,598, according to the Cash 5 game page on NC Lottery.com.

The winner bought the ticket at the Food Lion on on Cambridge Commons Drive in Charlotte, officials said.

The jackpot, $1,226,664, surpassed $1 million for the first time since November, officials said. The record Cash 5 jackpot is $2.1 million, won in April 2021, according to the lottery.

Friday’s winner has six months to claim the prize.

The jackpot reset to $100,000 Saturday.

Players can buy tickets for Cash 5 and five other N.C. lottery games at retailers and through Online Play on the lottery website and app.
