Two bodies found inside car that was pulled from the Cape Fear River, NC police say

Two men were found dead inside a car after it was pulled from a North Carolina river, police say.

The red Dodge Challenger sank into the Cape Fear River in Wilmington around midnight Friday, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.

It was seen driving over a pier and plunging into the river near Front Street and Market Street, police say.

Multiple agencies worked to recover the car, which was pulled from the river by a crane and tugboat at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, police say.

The river’s current and high tide made it difficult for officials to find the car most of Friday, police tell WECT. But at low tide it was found about 35 feet underwater.

The two in the car were identified as Je’Mel Sneed, 31, and Frederick Brock, 40, police said in a news release Saturday. Both men lived in Wilmington.

No other details were released as of Sunday afternoon, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
