Man who faced murder charge has fled care facility in South Carolina, officials say
A man who fled a court-ordered facility had been charged with murder, South Carolina officials say.
Donovan Lewis, 28, is wanted after he disappeared from Gregory Community Care in Piedmont, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday night on Facebook.
Deputies made the post days after Lewis was last seen at the care center.
He was reported missing between 11 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, deputies wrote on Facebook.
The sheriff’s office didn’t explain the delay in reporting the disappearance on Facebook, and a representative on Friday morning didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for information.
Officials in North Carolina also posted about the case Thursday. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Lewis has ties to the Rowland and Fairmont areas, south of Fayetteville.
In 2016, Lewis was charged with murder in Dillon County, South Carolina, online court records show. He was charged in connection with the death of a 52-year-old woman and found incompetent to stand trial, WHNS and WMBF reported.
If people see Lewis, they are asked to not approach him and call 911. Anyone who spots him in Robeson County can also call 910-671-3170, officials say.
