What would be your top priority if elected?
Reduce government’s involvement in personal decisions. Work to assure government sees everyone the same, regardless of personal differences. Systemic discrimination is a serious problem in our government. Special interests and special social groups should not have a say in government decisions.
By percentage, what raises should state employees, school staff and teachers receive in the next state budget?
Equal to inflation since their last raise.
What legislation would you support to improve Triangle transportation, housing or infrastructure? Please be specific.
Eliminate laws that restrict reasonable multi-family housing. The housing shortage in Raleigh is caused by government policy.
Do you think the legislature should fund about $500 million for private school vouchers through the Opportunity Scholarship program? Why or why not?
Government should stay out of a mother’s right to choose the school for their child. The money should follow the student. The use of vouchers is one way to allow the money that it takes to educate a child to go with the burden of educating a child. If performed with equity, it will not hurt the public system for these funds to be allocated to a different supplier. The school system will benefit from competition, just as all other services in the free market (grocers, bakers, dry cleaners) do.
Is there an issue on which you disagree with your party? What is your position on that issue?
Yes. The party calls for privatization of roads. This is impractical. While I strongly favor getting government out of our lives, we must be realistic and pragmatic with the decision processes. Most other policies I support. I will never understand why so many people in the other major parties seem to think they need government to make decisions for them. It is sad they think strangers can make decisions for them that they should be making for themselves.
