‘Splish, splash.’ Happy hyena spins for joy in bubble bath at Colorado zoo. See it
A spotted hyena spins for joy in a bubble bath behind the scenes at the Denver Zoo before being joined by two others, a video shows.
“Ngozi, Kelele and Tavi always enjoy a cool bubble bath or refreshing dip in the pool when the weather warms up,” the zoo said in a Tuesday, July 16, post on Facebook.
Hyenas in the wild like to cache things in water to return to them later, the zoo said.
Keepers hide objects in the water — concealed by bubbles — for the hyenas to find as an enrichment activity, officials said.
The video also shows the hyenas playing in the water in their habitat, sometimes accompanied by bubbles.
“Whenever the suds come out, our hyenas get extra excited to play!” the zoo said.
Spotted hyenas are native to the savanna and grasslands in Africa, National Geographic Kids said. They are the largest and most common kind of hyena.
