Two people died and a third may be missing after a pickup truck plunged off a cliff into the Pacific Ocean at a Northern California beach, fire officials reported.

The crash happened at Pescadero State Beach in San Mateo County, south of San Francisco, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

A pickup truck sped across a Highway 1 intersection into the beach parking lot without stopping, then plunged off a 30-foot cliff to land upside-down in the surf, California Highway Patrol officers told KPIX.

A man and a girl were found dead after the crash, and authorities believe a third person may have been in the vehicle, The Mercury News reported. The crash occurred at at 9 p.m. Friday, April 29.

Elizabeth Anaya identified the man who died in the crash as her brother, Ipolito Anaya, KNTV reported.

“I came out to see what’s left, I found his shoe,” Anaya told KGO. “He was going to turn 40 this year, he has three nieces, a mom, a dad, my sister. I’m just blank right now.”

Authorities have not officially identified the two killed in the crash.
