A climber got trapped on a New York quarry wall alone and in the dark, officials said.

The person was stranded Friday, April 22, on the side of the rock wall at the Jamesville Quarry, the Syracuse Fire Department said. The climber looked to be about 20 feet from the edge of a cliff, according to Syracuse.com.

Rescuers were called to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to CNY Central. Originally, the call was categorized as a missing person complaint, according to Syracuse.com.

A team of rescuers rushed to reach the climber and used a “technical rope rescue” to get the person to safety, according to the fire department.

“This rope rescue was successful as the Rescue Company members worked off of a cliff to secure and pull the citizen to safety,” firefighters said on Facebook.

The fire department did not say if the climber was injured or publicly disclose the climber’s identity.
