Woman hardly gets any sleep waiting to cash in her $2 million win in Virginia lottery
A Virginia woman had a lot to dream about after winning a $2 million lottery — even if she didn’t sleep the night after she hit the jackpot.
Burke resident Cindy Lopez told lottery officials she could hardly sleep at all on the night of March 27 after she realized how much money she won.
“It’s pretty exciting! It’s just kind of numbing!” she told lottery officials.
Lopez bought some tickets at the 7-Eleven on Burke Lake Road in Fairfax. She brought the tickets home before she scratched them off and realized she had a winning ticket.
Lopez could choose to take the prize money in annual payments or a one-time payout, minus taxes. She chose the latter and brought home $1,519,757, lottery officials said.
Lopez told lottery officials she wasn’t yet sure how she would spend the money.
The 7-Eleven that sold the winning ticket got a $10,000 bonus, according to lottery officials.
The odds of winning the top prize in the $2,000,000 Bonus Multiplier is 1 in 1,387,200, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Fairfax is about 100 miles north of Richmond.
