State test results are now out showing how every North Carolina public school fared during the 2021-22 school year.

The results released at Thursday’s State Board of Education meeting show that 51.2% of students passed state exams last school year. State education officials are cautioning about how to view the results because some students were still in virtual learning while others missed time due to COVID-19.

The new results are the first ones released since the 2018-19 school year that include whether a school met growth expectations on state exams. It also marks the return of schools getting an A through F letter grade based largely on their test results.

State education officials are also cautioning against comparing the new data with how schools did before the pandemic. Test scores dropped dramatically in North Carolina and nationally in the 2020-21 school year.
