Man charged with murder after fight outside convenience store, sheriff’s office reports

A man is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of man at the Carolina Open Air Market, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The arrest came about 12 hours after the shooting outside the convenience store on 6400 Poole Road, between Raleigh and Knightdale.

Luis Alberto Rodriguez, 32, of Knightdale, was arrested after a manhunt, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He is accused of killing 31-year-old Joseph Brooks Lee following a fight outside the store, a news release said. The fight happened about 9 p.m., according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s newsgathering partner.

Lee was taken to WakeMed Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Rodriguez is being held at the Wake County Detention Center.

It was one of two homicides that occurred Wednesday night. Zaequan Deloatch, 17, was shot about 10:50 p.m. on Duckling Way, about 5 miles north of the Poole Road shooting. No one has been charged in Deloatch’s death.

There have been four homicides in Wake County in 2020 so far, with three of them investigated by the Raleigh Police Department.
