3 men charged with murder after man shot near Raleigh community center

Three men were charged with murder Tuesday in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man at the Worthdale Community Center, Raleigh police said.

Quadir Ford was shot Monday at the center on the 1000 block of Cooper Road and died of his injuries at WakeMed.

It was the second homicide in Raleigh in four days.

Police charged Nicholas Raymond Holloway, 21; Gerald Thomas, 23; and Eric Michael Scott, 22, with murder. They said they are continuing to investigate.

Police responded to a report of a shooting about 12:37 p.m. Monday and found Ford with serious injuries, police said in a news release.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the community center, reported ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

A woman told ABC11 that Ford was among three young men who were going to play basketball.

Ford was set to turn 23 on Feb. 4, 2020, and had six siblings, according to a GoFundMe page created to raise money for his funeral arrangements. The campaign has a goal of $8,000 and has raised $2,875 as of Tuesday night.

In an unrelated shooting, police said 26-year-old Jameel Leon Barnes died Friday after he was found shot in the 2100 block of Nelson Street in East Raleigh, according to a news release. Police have not made any arrests in the homicide.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
