Man found shot in East Raleigh dies from injuries
A man found shot in East Raleigh early Friday morning died from his injuries, Raleigh Police said.
Police found Jameel Leon Barnes, 26, after responding to a report of shots fired in the 2100 block of Nelson Street about 1 a.m., according to a news release.
Friday afternoon, police said Barnes had died.
Police have not named a suspect or suspects or circumstances about the shooting.
A 911 caller reported hearing gunshots coming from inside a house but no sounds when the caller walked up to the house.
“I could see a hole on the wall and you know, debris on the floor,” the caller said, according to audio released from the department.
Barnes was released from Johnston Correctional Institution Sept. 29, 2019, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety. He was set to remain on parole for a year.
Raleigh police charged him with injury to real property Dec. 2, 2019.
He lived in Charlotte until 2013, when he was convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon at the age of 19. He was sentenced to roughly five to seven years in prison, court records show.
