Which streets will be closed for the Raleigh Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving? See race maps
The Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving morning staple, will close quite a few city streets on Thursday, Nov. 28, as runners race for the gold (before they race to the dinner table that evening).
There will be three major Turkey Trot races across the city, according to the city of Raleigh’s online special events calendar:
- The Turkey Trot at Ridgewood near Meredith College
- The Skinny Turkey at Wakefield High School
- The Trophy Trot in Dorothea Dix Park
Here are the race schedules and what to know about driving around Raleigh this week.

Raleigh roads closed for Skinny Turkey half marathon
The Skinny Turkey race starts and ends at Wakefield High School in North Raleigh.
There are five races within the event: the half marathon, the 10K, the 5K, the 1-mile and the “drumstick dash” for children.
All races follow an open-road course, meaning roads will not be closed for the event. Runners will follow the flow of traffic and stay to the right with Wake County Sheriff officers along the course to help monitor traffic, the race’s website says.
Note: The children’s drumstick dash will take place in the high school’s driveway circle, not on the road.
Roads will be used for the race 7:30-11 a.m., according to the city of Raleigh.
