Trash pickup dates change for Thanksgiving 2024. Here are schedules for Triangle towns
Many local governments in the Triangle are closing Thursday, Nov. 28, for Thanksgiving. That means trash and recycling pickup schedules may be affected for some residents.
Here’s when Triangle residents should expect their garbage and recycling to be collected. Towns and counties are listed alphabetically.
Apex trash and recycling pickup
Apex residents whose garbage collection day falls on Nov. 28 or Nov. 29 will be delayed one day, to Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, respectively.

Carrboro trash and recycling pickup
Residents whose garbage collection typically occurs Wednesday, Thursday or Friday are affected by Thanksgiving.
- Wednesday collection will happen Monday, Nov. 25.
- Thursday collection will occur Tuesday, Nov. 26.
- Friday collection is Wednesday, Nov. 27.

There is no yard waste or bulk waste collection the week of Nov. 25.
Curbside recycling will not be collected Nov. 28. Thursday and Friday collections are delayed one day, to Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, respectively.
Cary trash and recycling pickup
Solid waste collection will occur as normal for households on the schedule for Monday, Nov. 25 through Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste typically collected on Thursday is delayed and will be picked up Nov. 29.

Chapel Hill trash and recycling pickup
There will be no collection on Nov. 28. Orange County Landfill and Waste & Recycling Centers are closed Nov. 28 and open Nov. 29.
- Thursday and Friday recycling service is delayed one day, to Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30, respectively.
- Commercial trash will not be collected Nov. 28 or Nov. 29. Instead, collections will happen earlier in the week.
- Residential trash collection is not affected. Yard trimming will not be collected Nov. 28 or Nov. 29, and there are no make-up days.
City of Durham trash and recycling pickup
Durham residents whose garbage, recycling and yard waste collections typically occur on Thursday will be affected by the Thanksgiving holiday.
- Thursday collections will be delayed by one day and will take place Nov. 29.
- Yard waste usually picked up on Friday will instead be collected Monday, Dec. 2.
The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility and Household Hazardous Waste Center are closed Nov. 28 and Nov. 30, but open normal hours Nov. 29.

Durham County Thanksgiving garbage schedule
Durham County Convenience Sites are affected by Thanksgiving. The Northern and Redwood Convenience Sites are closed Nov. 28 and Nov. 30, and open Nov. 29. The Parkwood site is closed Nov. 28-30.
Fuquay-Varina trash and recycling pickup
There are no changes to the recycling schedule.
However, there will be no garbage collection Nov. 28. Thursday and Friday customers will have collection service Nov. 29.

Garner trash and recycling pickup
Trash, recycling and yard waste pickup will be collected as normal Nov. 25-27.
Collection usually scheduled for Thursday will instead occur Friday, Nov. 29. If any households are missed Friday, collection will continue Saturday morning.

Hillsborough trash and recycling pickup
No garbage will be collected Nov. 28 or Nov. 29.
- Collection typically scheduled on Thursday will be collected a day earlier, on Nov. 27.
- Collections that usually occur on Friday will be delayed to Monday, Dec. 2. Trash will also be picked up Friday, Dec. 6.

Holly Springs trash and recycling pickup
No garbage or recycling collection will happen Nov. 28.
Thursday customers will be served on Friday, Nov. 29, and Friday customers will be served Saturday, Nov. 30.
Yard waste cart collection for Thursday and Friday customers is also delayed to Nov. 30.

Knightdale trash and recycling pickup
Knightdale residents whose trash and recycling is typically picked up on Thursday will instead be collected Friday, Nov. 29.
The garbage collection for all other residents is unchanged.

Morrisville trash and recycling pickup
Trash and recycling will not be collected Nov. 28.
- Collections scheduled for Nov. 28 will be pushed back to Nov. 29.
- Garbage and recycling scheduled for collection Nov. 29 will be delayed to Nov. 30.

Orange County Thanksgiving garbage schedule
Orange County Waste & Recycling centers and the C&D Landfill are closed Nov. 28 and open Nov. 29.
Raleigh trash and recycling pickup
If your service day is Thursday, Nov. 28, or Friday, Nov. 29, your service will be delayed one day.
The Yard Waste Center is closed Nov. 28.

Wake County Thanksgiving garbage schedule
Solid Waste Convenience Centers and Multi-Material Recycling facilities are closed Nov. 28. They reopen Nov. 29.
Wake Forest trash and recycling pickup
No collections will occur Nov. 28.
- Any garbage and recycling scheduled to be collected Nov. 28 will be picked up Nov. 29. Collections scheduled for Nov. 29 will also be delayed, to Nov. 30.
- Yard waste won’t be collected Nov. 28-29. Instead, all routes will be collected Nov. 25-27, until all have been completed. Wake Forest residents should place yard waste and loose leaves in separate piles behind the curb by 7 a.m. Nov. 25 for pickup by Nov. 27.

Zebulon trash and recycling pickup
Trash and recycling will be collected Saturday, Nov. 30.
