North Carolina’s Scotty McCreery has dropped a special version of his latest single featuring a shout out to his hometown alma mater.

Ahead of his upcoming Fall of Summer tour, the Garner native and North Carolina State University alum officially released a remix of his current single, “Fall of Summer (NC State Version).”

The 30-year-old “American Idol” country star, who won the show at just 17-years-old in 2011, originally tweaked the lyrics of his hit song when N.C. State men’s and women’s basketball teams made historic NCAA Final Four runs this spring— back when he even flew to Phoenix for a game hours before a show in San Diego.

Instead of the original “And I said you oughta come see me at state,” the Wolfpack superfan tweaked it to “I said come see at NC State.

Due to popular demand — after many fans put their own twist on the song with their school name on social media — country music lovers can now stream the special Wolfpack version of the song tweaked from what has become his most critically acclaimed album to date.

Fall of Summer (NC State Version)

You sent one “I miss you” when you got back home to Dallas

I said come see me at NC State

You were the one who taught me how heartbreak happens

Feeling the sting and then watching it fade

Like a sunburn on your shoulders

Girl that’s all it was to you

When I think about you and me

It’s a little more like a tattoo

“Written by McCreery, Frank Rogers and Brent Anderson and produced by Rogers, Derek Wells, and Aaron Eshuis, ‘Fall of Summer,’ is currently climbing the chart at country radio and was most added its first week,” his management team said in a release. “Filled with mature nostalgia, and built on one of the album’s most modern, cinematic sounds, the midtempo and reflective standout finds the country crooner’s vocal at a low simmer, as a guy looks back on a season of life that ultimately faded, but also made room for the here and now.”

“Fall of Summer (NC State Version)” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes and more.

McCreery recently made national headlines for stopping a concert in Colorado after he noticed from the stage a man striking a woman in the crowd. McCreery stopped the show until the man was escorted out of the venue.
