‘That’s a lady you just hit, sir!’ Singer Scotty McCreery halts concert to call out fan.

Garner native and “American Idol” alum Scotty McCreery went viral on social media this weekend after stopping his concert to help a woman allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend.
McCreery was in the middle of his sold-out performance at the Big R Arena in Pueblo, Colorado, on Saturday night when the incident occurred. The concert was part of the Colorado State Fair, which began Friday and will run through Sept. 2.
A video posted by KFDA News of Amarillo, Texas, captures McCreery saying, “Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir!”
McCreery stops playing, then says: “Absolutely not. Who just hit the lady?”
A post on X by a concertgoer captured another angle of the incident. “@ScottyMcCreery stopping his show at the @colostatefair because some scumbag hit his girlfriend!” the post reads. “Good for you Scotty!”
Videos from the concert show McCreery did not resume playing until the man was escorted from the venue.
McCreery, 30, shot to fame after winning the 10th season of “American Idol” in 2011.
The Garner High School graduate was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in April and joined the N.C. Music Hall of Fame last year.
A spokesperson for the Colorado State Fair confirmed the alleged assault.
“Colorado State Fair security assisted with crowd control,” she wrote via email. “This incident is still under investigation and we cannot comment further.”
However, the Colorado State Fair is asking people to send additional videos or images of the incident to security at csf.security@state.co.us, the spokesperson said.
In an additional statement Thursday, the Colorado State Fair spokesperson said the woman who was assaulted was evaluated by onsite Emergency Medical Services and declined to go to the hospital via ambulance. The Colorado State Fair Police have referred potential charges to the Pueblo County District Attorney’s office, she said.
A publicist for McCreery said via email Tuesday that McCreery would not be commenting on the incident.
