A Triangle town will soon be losing a movie theater.
B&B Theatres is closing its Morrisville location early next year. The announcement came in a news release from Casto, owner of Park West Village, the shopping center where the movie theater is located.
“Looking ahead, zoning has been approved for a mixed-use development at Park West Village,” according to the news release. “Casto will announce redevelopment details as they become available.”
The theater opened in 2021 and was B&B Theatres’ first North Carolina location. Located at 3400 Village Market Place, it is the only remaining B&B Theatres location in the state, according to the company’s website.
“B&B Theatres at Park West Village has been a place where families gathered, friends met, and memories were made,” Brock Bagby, president of B&B Theaters, said in the news release. “As we prepare to close this location, we want to thank the community and Casto for years of support and invite everyone to come visit one last time during this special time of year.”
Sunday, Jan. 4 will be the theater’s last day. Anyone with a gift card should redeem it before the theater’s final day, according to the news release.
There is one other movie theater in Morrisville, AMC Park Place 16 at 9525 Chapel Hill Road, in the Park Place shopping center.
After the Morrisville location closes, B&B Theatres will have cinemas in 14 states.
“We do not, at present, have plans to expand or acquire different locations in the state, but are certainly thankful for the time we spent in the community and region,” Paul Farnsworth, executive director of communications and content for B&B Theatres, said in an email to The News & Observer.
B&B Theatres is not the first movie theater in Wake County to close in recent years. In 2024, Regal closed its Beaver Creek theater in Apex.
Park West Village redevelopment
The potential for the theater to close has been public information for years. B&B Theatres was one of a handful of Park West Village businesses that would have been demolished for redevelopment, The N&O reported in 2023.
Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar and the bygone Which Wich were the other two businesses that would be demolished. Which Wich has since closed its Park West Village location, but Bad Daddy’s is still open.
A representative for the burger restaurant previously told The N&O that the company had “every intention of staying in that area.”
The N&O has reached out to Bad Daddy’s for comment.
