These 8 new grocery stores are opening in the Triangle. Here’s when

New grocery stores are expected to open throughout the Triangle in coming years, starting as soon as this year.

None of the stores mark a company’s entrance into the Triangle market, but the locations represent brands’ expansion into new cities, many of them rapidly growing areas.

Here’s a list of the forthcoming locations and projected opening dates.

Grocery stores opening in Wake County

  • Apna Bazar, an Indian grocery store, is expanding to a second location. The original is in Morrisville, and the new store will be at the Freedom Square development in Apex at Green Level Church Road and Green Level West Road. Satish Deva, a partner at Apna Bazar, told The News & Observer in December that the store is expected to open in late 2025.
  • Florida-based Publix will open a new store at 821 S. Main St. in Rolesville on Wednesday, May 21. The 46,791-square-foot store will employ about 140 associates. The nearest Publix is in Wake Forest, on Forestville Road.
  • Another Publix is planned for 7330 Buffaloe Road in Raleigh. Expected to open in 2025, this location will be Publix’s third in the city.
  • Wegmans is expanding in Wake County with a new location in Holly Springs, but shoppers will have to continue to wait to visit the store, which will be the fifth for the Triangle. The New York-based grocer previously told The N&O that the projected opening for the Holly Springs store, located at N.C. Highway 55 and Ralph Stephens Road, is in 2027.

Grocery stores opening in Durham County

  • Publix is opening a new store along Guess Road in northern Durham County. The store will be at the Latta Park development, which is also expected to including housing and other retail options. A Publix media relations manager did not immediately respond to The N&O’s request for a projected opening date for the Durham County location.

Grocery stores opening in Johnston County

  • Publix is planning another Johnston County store at 16100 N.C. Highway 50 North. It is expected to open in 2025, a media relations manager previously told The N&O.
  • BJ’s Wholesale Club recently broke ground on a new location in Selma, in the Eastfield development. The approximately 100,000-square-foot store — which will also have an on-site gas station — is expected to open in spring 2026 and will join the existing Triangle locations in Raleigh, Cary and Garner.
  • Also in the Eastfield development, Target is building its first Johnston County location, with a projected opening in spring 2026.

A maybe: Aldi has purchased land in Clayton, at U.S. Highway 70 and Rose Street. The grocer has not announced that it plans to build a store there, but it did submit plans for a new, approximately 19,000-square-foot store on the site, in 2023.
