Some Spectrum customers now have free access to another entertainment option.

Peacock Premium, the ad-supported streaming platform from NBCUniversal, is now available to certain Spectrum TV customers.

“The integration of Peacock advances our goal of offering customers high-value video products that include the best of linear and streaming television,” Tom Montemagno, Spectrum’s executive vice president of programming acquisition, said in a news release.

Here’s what to know about the deal.

Who can get Peacock Premium?

Anyone who has a Spectrum TV Select Signature or Spectrum TV Select Plus plan has access to Peacock Premium.

A Peacock Premium subscription, which is available to Spectrum TV Select customers for free, typically costs about $8 per month.

How can Spectrum TV customers start watching Peacock Premium?

Spectrum TV customers can “immediately begin watching” Peacock Premium content. That includes live sports and events, current NBC and Bravo shows, original series and movies from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination.

To activate Peacock Premium, visit spectrum.com/getapp.

Existing Peacock Premium customers will not receive credits or refunds for overlapping subscription periods.

“Spectrum has long been an important distributor of NBCUniversal’s leading broadcast and cable networks, and we are proud to build on that partnership by making Peacock Premium available to Spectrum TV Select customers,” Matt Schnaars, NBCUniversal’s president of platform distribution and partnerships, said in the news release.

Which other streaming platforms can Spectrum customers access?

Spectrum TV customers also have free access to ad-supported versions of Disney+ Basic, ESPN+, ViX Premium with ads, AMC+ and Tennis Channel.

Within the past year, Spectrum gave its TV Select customers access to Paramount+ and Max, HBO’s streaming platform.

How to choose a streaming service

Cord-cutters may have abandoned their cable contracts long ago.

But over the years, new streaming platforms have rolled out, and each is unique.

Spectrum TV customers may be able to save money on subscriptions, but other people may want to be more choosy and limit their entertainment subscription spending.

The News & Observer previously compared prices of popular streaming platforms to help consumers make decisions.

One of the first steps to choosing a streaming service is determining what kind of content you want to watch. Some companies bill themselves as a cable alternative, offering live, on-demand TV channels. Others specialize in original content or previously released shows and movies. Some offer a combination of both live TV and additional content.
