Five retailers are signed on to open their first Triangle locations at a popular Durham mall.

The Streets at Southpoint announced the brands — Dick’s House of Sport, Alo Yoga, Gorjana, Aritzia and Vuori — in an email Thursday, Dec. 12.

The tenants are the first in a “multi-year merchandising plan” beginning in 2025, according to the email.

“When you look at this first wave of tenants that we’re bringing in, with Alo, Vuori, Aritzia, these are the tenants that every shopping center in the country right now is trying to add, and with that, there’s coat tails on additional tenants that want to follow these type of retailers,” Steve Bolger, the vice president of leasing at mall owner and manager Brookfield Properties told The News & Observer in a video interview.

The Streets at Southpoint, built in 2002, has been a “jumping off point” for many retailers entering the Triangle market, Bolger said, and additional brands are expected to follow these five tenants over the next two to three years.

“We’re always trying to add to what, you know, we view as already the best in class retail and entertainment offerings in the market,” Bolger said. “And so with that, the first market tenants are always key. And with that, you want to bring what the customer is looking for, what the hottest, most dynamic, new retail trends across the country.”

Athleisure brands Alo Yoga, Vuori join Streets at Southpoint

Two apparel retailers known for casual, comfortable clothing are among the new retailers at the Durham mall. Opening dates for the stores have not been announced, Jamie Jones, a communications manager who works with Southpoint, told The News & Observer in an email.

Alo Yoga and Vuori will join brands including Athleta, Fabletics, Offline by Aerie and Lululemon at the Durham mall.

California-based Vuori began in 2015 with men’s shorts, and it has since added additional styles and a women’s line, all inspired by the coastal lifestyle.

Early on, Vuori faced challenges selling merchandise. The brand had some luck placing its products in workout studios and gyms, but it really didn’t take off until it invested in direct-to-consumer marketing, specifically digital advertising, Inc. reported in 2023.

Now it has brick-and-mortar stores in states across the country, including in Charlotte, along with a handful of stores in Europe and Asia.

Alo Yoga caters to practitioners of yoga, but it is beloved for streetwear, too. Celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner have all been photographed wearing the brand.

However, the brand also features collections from a luxury atelier. The current lineup includes pieces made from fabrics such as silk and cashmere.

Like Vuori, Alo Yoga has one North Carolina store in Charlotte.

Jewelry brand Gorjana plans two stores in North Carolina

Gorjana, a California-based jewelry company with more than 90 stores across the U.S., plans to open retail locations in Charlotte and Durham in 2025.

The brand is known for layerable silver and gold earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings accented with diamonds, opals, sapphires and other gems.

It was founded by husband-wife duo Jason and Gorjana Reidel in Laguna Beach in 2004, and its first retail store didn’t open until 2016. The Southpoint location is expected to open in September 2025, after the Charlotte store, which is projected to open in the spring.

“Gorjana will be a great addition that complements our already existing tenant lineup,” Patrick Anderson, a senior general manager of Streets at Southpoint, said in a press release. “As an in-demand brand, we know our community will really love it.”

Fink’s Jewelers, Kay Jewelers, Kendra Scott, Pandora, Swarovski and Zales are among the jewelry brands on the Durham mall’s directory.

Aritzia opens second North Carolina store in Durham

The Canada-based clothing and accessories retailer Aritzia is another retailer joining Southpoint.

With its selection of “everyday luxury,” the company sells clothing for men, women and dogs from house brands such as Babaton and Tna, along with familiar names including Levi’s, New Balance and Citizens of Humanity.

Aritzia’s boutiques are each unique, with custom furniture and artwork. The company even has its own Spotify playlists.

There’s a boutique at Charlotte’s SouthPark Mall, and the Durham location will be the company’s second in the state, based on Aritzia’s store locator.

A projected opening date for the store has not been announced.

Dick’s House of Sport brings experiential retail to Durham

Shoppers may be familiar with Dick’s Sporting Goods, but a visit to Dick’s House of Sport is a different experience.

Rather than just stocking sporting goods equipment and apparel, Dick’s House of Sport — which will move into the former Sears space — allows customers to try products in store.

House of Sport locations have climbing walls, golf bays with TrackMan simulators and multi-sport cages for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. The Durham location, which will be the second for North Carolina, is expected to have a fenced, outdoor turf multi-use field, which will be built on the existing parking lot.

A projected opening date for the store has not been announced.
