Custom sneaker store opens at Triangle Town Center (& new restaurants are coming soon)

A store that transforms off-the-rack shoes into one-of-a-kind wearable art is now open at Triangle Town Center.

Castle Creations is the latest outpost from Mike Phillips, aka Sircastleteees. Phillips, who is well-known in the industry (with over 189,000 followers on Instagram), has a store at 610 W. South St. in downtown Raleigh.

Triangle Town Center store manager Noah Mellette described Castle Creations as a “Build-A-Bear for shoes.” Customers can provide the base shoe or purchase one from the store, then select laces, materials and paints. They can modify the shoes themselves with help from an instructor or commission the custom footwear to a store artist.

In addition to shoes, Castle Creations — which opened in late November on the upper level of the mall near Foot Locker — works on headsets and gaming controllers and has a 3-D printer. Customers can also rent the store for events such as birthday parties.

“This shop is mainly where you do customs, and you create things from beginning to end,” Mellette told The News & Observer over the phone.

Triangle sneakerheads aren’t the only people who are interested in personalizing their footwear. Over the years, Phillips has designed shoes for celebrities including pro basketball player Montrezl Harrell, Colombian singer J Balvin and rapper Kodak Black, The N&O previously reported.

Subs and smoothies coming to Triangle Town Center

Two chain dining spots are expanding into Triangle Town Center, which is under new ownership, The N&O recently reported.

Blimpie, which sells hot and cold sub sandwiches, and Planet Smoothie are “coming soon” to the upper level of the mall near Forged in Fantasy.

The company’s website shows that the Raleigh location will be Blimpie’s first in the Triangle, joining an existing North Carolina location in Waynesville. Planet Smoothie has stores in Wake Forest, Salisbury and High Point, according to its online store locator.

Triangle Town Center’s current list of dining options includes Chick-fil-A, Chili’s and Lechon Latin BBQ & Bar.

Both Blimpie and Planet Smoothie, along with dozens of other brands including Cold Stone Creamery and Wetzel’s Pretzels, are operated by restaurant franchise company Kahala Brands.

Kahala Brands did not respond to The N&O’s request for more information about the Triangle Town Center locations, including projected opening dates. Contact information for the franchises was not available.
