The Casual Pint will officially welcome back customers with a grand-opening celebration at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 7. The business plans to bring back its “curated craft beer tap wall” and drink cooler, according to the news release and details a spokesperson shared with The News & Observer via email.
But The Casual Pint also will update its food selection to include wraps, salads, sriracha chili bourbon meatballs and a pretzelwurst platter. Other items on its online menu include chicken wings, quesadillas and flatbreads.
“We aren’t just reopening a bar; we are rebuilding a community hub,” co-owner Jason Dettman said in the release. “We are excited to introduce some new menu items and a fresh focus on guest experience that we’ve perfected in our other markets.”
Dettman, Huskin and fellow co-owner Dave Vannier see potential in Chapel Hill. They already are familiar with The Casual Pint, having run other franchises.
The Casual Pint has 17 bars nationwide and hopes to have more than 30 bars by next year. The only other North Carolina location is in Charlotte, according to its website.
When the Chapel Hill spot got its start in 2019, it expected to offer dozens of beers on tap and a growler filling service, The News & Observer previously reported. Then as the business approached its 6-year anniversary in November, it announced plans to shut down.
“This difficult decision has been made with mixed emotions after careful consideration of our business operations versus the financial costs, which are simply too high for us to continue operating our business at the same standards we are so proud to have served this community,” previous owners Bill and Donna Darragh wrote in a Facebook post.
Other new options for beer lovers
The planned opening adds to the Triangle’s expanding beer scene. In April, Crooked Hammock Brewery opened on Edwards Mill Road near Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.
And in May, Basic Brewing announced plans to launch in West End, near Union Station in downtown Raleigh. The brewpub is expected to open in the fall, The N&O previously reported.
