Chicken finger restaurants continue to grow their Triangle footprint.
Zaxbys, which already has a presence in the area, is adding another Raleigh location.
The chain, which was founded in 1990 in Statesboro, Georgia, is bringing its chicken “fingerz” and wings to 4112 Lake Boone Trail, next to City Barbeque.
The restaurant is expected to open in late 2025 or early 2026, a public relations representative for Zaxbys told The News & Observer in an email.
Several restaurants are in the vicinity of the forthcoming Zaxbys, including McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A and Buffalo Brothers.
This will be Zaxbys’ fourth location in Raleigh, joining several others across Durham, Chapel Hill, Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, Apex, Clayton, Cary, Knightdale and Garner.
Triangle Business Journal first reported news of the restaurant.
Chicken finger restaurants in the Triangle
Over the past several decades, fast-food chains specializing in chicken fingers have popped up across the country, and the Triangle has not been left out of the trend.
Guthrie’s, established in Alabama, claims to be the first chicken finger restaurant, and it plans to open its first North Carolina location in Raleigh soon, CEO Joe Kelly Guthrie previously told The N&O. More stores in the Carolinas are expected to open in the next six months.
Raising Cane’s came to the Triangle several years ago, taking a space on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. It hasn’t opened a new location in the area since then, but the Louisiana-based restaurant has submitted plans to add a restaurant on Hillsborough Street, near N.C. State.
Compared to Guthrie’s and Raising Cane’s, Zaxbys has the biggest presence in the Triangle.
Earlier this year, Zaxbys opened a Chapel Hill location steps from Raising Cane’s. The Zaxbys restaurant isn’t a standalone spot and doesn’t have a drive-thru, which is atypical for the brand. It also features self-service ordering kiosks, which set it apart from other locations.
Zaxbys menu
Zaxbys ventured farther from the traditional chicken finger, fries, toast and sauce combo than its competitors.
In addition to its “fingerz,” served alongside crinkle fries, Texas toast, cole slaw and its special “Zax Sauce,” Zaxbys serves boneless and traditional wings. Its chicken finger and wings meals cost $8-$11.
The restaurant also makes chicken sandwiches with fried chicken fingers and fried and grilled chicken fillets. Sandwiches are priced between $8 and $11, according to the Hillsborough Street location’s online menu.
Chicken fingers are also available via taco, for $3.
Zaxbys offers a few salads, marketed as “Zalads,” all priced around $10.
Some of its more adventurous menu items are sides. Veggie egg rolls, filled with shredded vegetables and seasonings, are $3. Fried white cheddar bites, battered and served with ranch, are $4.50. Fried pickles are about $5, and chicken bacon ranch loaded fries are $8.
For dessert, Zaxbys has milkshakes, chocolate chip cookies and fried cheesecake bites with strawberry sauce.
