The team behind one of the Triangle’s favorite Indian restaurants is opening a new grab-and-go market in Durham.

Preeti Waas, the two-time James Beard semifinalist and owner of Cheeni, and her daughter Amy Waas, are expanding Nanny Goat.

They opened the first Nanny Goat at Horseshoe at Hub RTP in July, and the second location will be at the GeerHouse development near the Durham Food Hall.

Nanny Goat’s Durham location is expected to open in October, the “boutique bodega” shared in an Instagram post.

Nanny Goat opening in Durham

At Nanny Goat, convenience foods prepared by local chefs will be in the spotlight. Goods and brands featured at the RTP location will also be available in Durham.

Waas previously said Nanny Goat at RTP would have “sundries, fresh flowers, and bread and pastries from local bakers,” including pastries from chef Tie Whittaker of Buttermilk Boutique, breads from Breadwaala and cookies from Sugar & Spice Kitchen, The News & Observer previously reported.

Waas twice was named a semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast for Cheeni, located at 202 N. Corcoran St. in Durham. The restaurant’s sister cocktail spot, The Bar Beej, was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for Best New Bar.

Restaurants and retail at GeerHouse

GeerHouse, an apartment complex at 620 Foster St., has retail space on the ground floor. A couple of concepts are already open there:

  • Tataco, from James Beard semifinalist chef Oscar Diaz, is a casual taqueria serving fajitas, tacos and bowls.
  • Nectar Cafe serves espresso coffee drinks, desserts from local bakery Lucettegrace, wine and beer.
  • Steelo Salon is a hair salon offering color and cut services.
