One of Brooklyn’s most famous pizza families will open a new restaurant in RTP
One of the best pizzerias in North Carolina — arguably one of the best on the East Coast — will expand to RTP later this year.
Cary’s Di Fara Pizza Tavern is opening a new location in the Horsehoe at Hub RTP, a new development that’s quickly becoming a foodie wonderland.
Di Fara Pizza Tavern is owned by Gregory Norton, the nephew of the late famed pizzaiolo Domenico DeMarco, who founded Brooklyn Di Fara in 1965, often talked about as the best pizza in America.
“We are excited for this expansion in the Triangle,” said Gregory Norton, co-owner of Di Fara Pizza Tavern’s Cary and Horseshoe locations in a news release. “Horseshoe at Hub RTP is a prime location for some of our loyal guests and we look forward to meeting many new guests, including the new residents and workers in the vibrant Hub RTP community.”
Cary’s Di Fara makes its pizzas in the same way as the original, even using an expensive water filtration device to mimic the water chemistry of Brooklyn.
The new Di Fara is expected to open in December.
The pizza is served as large 18 inch thin crust pies, cupping pepperoni and other gourmet toppings.
Di Fara’s expansion will be 4,000 square feet, much larger than the location in downtown Cary. Situated along the Horseshoe courtyard, the new Di Fara will have 145 seats inside, another 90 on an outdoor patio and a private dining room for 32. Uniquely, there will be a walk-up window where diners can order gelato and drinks while waiting for a table to open up.
“White Point and the Research Triangle Foundation of NC are thrilled to have another established culinary brand joining the Horseshoe community,” said Erik Johnson, co-founder of White Point, the owner of Horseshoe at Hub RTP. “Di Fara Pizza Tavern will be a welcome addition.”
Other restaurants at Horsehoe at Hub RDU
At Horseshoe, Di Fara joins an impressive restaurant roster, led by Prime STQ, a new barbecue-centric steakhouse; Cheeni, a new location of the acclaimed Indian restaurant; Nanny Goat, a grab and go gourmet market; and Drift Coffee + Kitchen.
“Horseshoe at Hub RTP is quickly becoming a dynamic destination where top-tier dining, entertainment and innovation come together,” says Carolyn Coia, vice president of real estate at Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina in a news release.
“Di Fara Pizza is a classic addition to our growing community, bringing authentic New York style pizza and craftsmanship passed down through generations. As we continue shaping a vibrant, walkable downtown for Research Triangle Park, we’re eager to welcome a restaurant that stays true to its roots and remains dedicated to quality.”
