Triangle spot gets ‘B’ for expired food from 3 months ago: Restaurant scores (Sept. 24)
The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.
Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.
You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.
Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Sept. 17-23.
Wake County sanitation scores
The Wake County sanitation grades database shows that 99 restaurant inspections were completed Sept. 17-23.
All restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

Durham County sanitation scores
The Durham County inspection management system shows 32 restaurant inspections were completed Sept. 17-23.
Most restaurants received an A grade.
Two received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Hilton Garden Inn - RPT Food Service (4620 S Miami Blvd. in Durham) received a score of 87.5% during an inspection on Sept. 19.
The restaurant was in violation of 19 standards. Of these, 10 were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included finding some foods — like sour cream, ham and cheese — warmer than necessary temperatures, knives with “blue substance” on blades stored as clean and mashed potatoes and raw beef in chef cold drawers dated June 10 and June 19.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
Wok’n Grille (5311 S Miami Blvd. in Durham) received a score of 85.5% during an inspection on Sept. 19.
The restaurant was in violation of 17 standards. Of these, six were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included repackaged raw meat stored above ready-to-eat vegetables in a freezer and hard boiled eggs, egg rolls and tofu found with missing date marks.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 97.5% and 87% in February 2024.

Orange County sanitation scores
The Orange County inspection management system shows that 19 restaurant inspections were completed Sept. 17-23.
All restaurants received an A grade.

Johnston County sanitation scores
The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 16 restaurant inspections were completed Sept. 17-23.
All restaurants received an A grade.

Chatham County sanitation scores
The Chatham County inspections management system shows that eight restaurant inspections were completed Sept. 17-23.
Most restaurants received an A grade.
One received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
Jordan Dam Mini Mart (8036 Moncure Pittsboro Rd. in Moncure) received a score of 84.5% during an inspection on Sept. 17.
The restaurant was in violation of 13 standards. Of these, seven were considered critical violations.
Critical violations included moldy cheese found in a cooler, hot dogs and chicken wings at least 10 degrees colder than appropriate temperature and multiple opened foods — including salsa verde, tater tots and cheese — found with no date mark.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
