These NC breweries have the best fall seasonal beer across the country, USA Today says
North Carolina has a buzzing brewery scene, and two local breweries are in the spotlight for having the best beers to sip on this season.
Just in time for another crisp autumn, USA Today released the Top 10 best fall brews across the U.S. as part of its annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Of all the fan-favorite drinks that “capture the flavors and aromas of the season,” you can find two of the best in Charlotte.
As voted on by USA Today readers, the second-best fall beer is Mecktoberfest from The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten, the oldest brewery in the city and the largest beer garden in the southeastern U.S.
“Mecktoberfest, a Märzen-style amber lager, features Munich malt and a yeast strain from the oldest brewery in the world,” the report says. “It’s won two European Beer Gold Star awards and a Great American Beer Festival Silver, and it will make a fantastic addition to your own Oktoberfest.”
Fun fact: OMB was also voted as the overall best beer garden in the country by USA Today readers.
Along with OMB’s Mecktoberfest lager, NoDa Brewing Company’s Gordgeous beer also ranked among the top five – ranked as No. 4 on the list. That annual favorite also recently took home a gold medal from the 2024 NC Brewers Cup competition.
“NoDa’s Gordgeous pumpkin ale has won two Gold Medals at the Great American Beer Festival. It’s made with real pumpkin puree and combined with brown sugar, ginger root, cardamon, cloves, and allspice,” the report says. “You can find it every fall on tap at their Charlotte brewery or else buy a six-pack of cans to celebrate the changing season.”
