Five Star set for official open in Durham. How it’ll differ from Raleigh restaurant.
Five Star, an Asian restaurant in Raleigh since 2000, officially opens a second location at Durham’s American Tobacco Campus next week.
The restaurant had a soft-launch opening last month, but the grand opening — complete with a lunch menu, a small menu and a dinner menu — will be Tuesday, Jan. 17.
“In the last year, there’s been a sudden crazy interest in our restaurant and our food after 22 years here,” Five Star co-owner Michelle Bender told The N&O. “I’m not used to it, and it’s not really our thing, but I’m grateful.”
Five Star adds lunch menu
The new Durham location will feature Five Star’s most popular menu items, like Five Star Generals Chicken, Heat Seeker Shrimp, sesame beef and crispy green beans. The biggest difference between the two spots: Durham’s location will serve lunch.
“The chef has come up with some pretty cool dishes — rice bowls and salads with all these different toppings,” Bender said.
Just like in Raleigh, there will be a set menu and a features menu that regularly changes. But diners can find different dumplings and noodle dishes between the two locations.
“In Raleigh, we just started making soup dumplings, and those will be in Durham too,” she said, adding the same chef will make soup dumplings for both locations. “That’s something we’re excited to offer — you don’t find them at a lot of places.”
Lunch, dinner hours and reservations
Lunch will be served 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner will begin at 5 p.m. until closing at 10 p.m. A small menu will be available from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
To make reservations, call the restaurant directly. Customers will soon be able to reserve tables online through Resy, Bender said.
