From ice cream and custard to icy frozen goodness on a stick, here’s your guide to the best summertime treats in the Triangle.

It was inevitable that some of our tried and true ice cream establishments would get knocked out of the competition of our Triangle ice cream bracket.

It was just a matter of which ones. In perhaps the toughest cut yet, the three shops to make it to the final round are Andia’s Ice Cream Shop in Cary; Maple View Ice Cream in Hillsborough; and FRESH. Local Ice Cream, with locations in Raleigh, Cary and Apex.

That means Two Roosters, Howling Cow Creamery and Goodberry’s are out.

We started with 25 shops, based on suggestions from readers.

In Round Two, some local favorites like The Parlour, LocoPops and Videri Chocolate Factory fell out of our top 12.

Now you have your Top 3. It’s time to vote for the ultimate favorite — just one can win the Triangle Ice Cream Bracket.

Voting in this final round will end Friday, July 29 at 12 noon.

Note that we are leaving out chains in this competition. Yes, we all have our favorite Baskin-Robbins and Ben & Jerry’s flavors. But this unofficial survey aims to shine a spotlight on homegrown options.
