Talking Preps: Previewing second round NC football playoffs; preseason basketball show

A new Talking Preps airs Tuesday night at 8. On tap:

The Guru, Chris Hughes, leads a class-by-class discussion of the N.C. private and public school playoffs, in the east and the west. The Guru will also reveal the latest statewide high school football rankings.

We feature the NC players of the week -- West Charlotte’s Julian Carmichael, Millbrook’s Session McArthur, New Hanover’s Cade Morton, Murphy’s Hunter Stalcup and Pine Lake Prep’s Nick Reid.

The Mr. Football Watchlist gets trimmed to 8 players.

Grice and Greiner feature four new “Fresh Faces:” Cardinal Gibbons’ Donovan Dozier, Charlotte Country Day’s Dillon Kercher, Hough’s Samari Matthews and Holly Springs’ Joel Sheehan.

Every week, Sam sits down with a top N.C. lineman for his “Frontline Warrior” segment. This week, he features Mooresville’s Xzavier Booker.

Chelsea sits down with Cleveland High football star Jackson Byrd.

And high school basketball season tips off Friday. To help get us ready, our “basketball guru,” Rick Lewis, and Randall Clark stop by to talk boys and girls hoops and reveal our preseason statewide rankings.

Randall also faces off with Sam on The Game Show.
