Apex Friendship, led by Stanford commit Indya Nivar, reaches NC basketball state final
Apex Friendship (29-2) bolted out to an 18-point halftime lead on the way to its 21st win in its past 22 games, securing a 65-48 victory over Millbrook in the NCHSAA 4A East regional final at Green Level High School in Cary on Saturday.
Patriots guard Indya Nivar — a McDonald’s All-American and Stanford signee — scored 35 points. Nivar’s scoring output is among the Eastern Regional’s all-time, 10 best single-game performances. Nivar posted the best individual scoring total ever in a 4A Eastern Regional final.
The Patriots won in the Green Level gymnasium, where they suffered a 10-point loss on February 11 without Nivar. Teammate Victoria Sagne added 11 points on Saturday.
Reychel Douglas netted 17 for Millbrook (23-4).
Apex Friendship will face Chambers next Saturday. Last season, Chambers (known previously as Vance) won the 4A state championship.
Apex Friendship coach Scott Campbell led Apex to the 2006 4A state final.
