UNC baseball star Vance Honeycutt invited to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team camp
After a prolific freshman season, North Carolina outfielder Vance Honeycutt has accepted an invitation to participate in this summer’s USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.
The five-day training camp, which begins on June 30, will provide Honeycutt with an opportunity to make the final 26-man USA roster. The camp will include about 50 top college players who are not draft eligible.
Honeycutt is the 17th Tar Heel to receive a USA Collegiate National Team camp invite, and the first since UNC pitcher Gianluca Dalatri in 2017.
During his freshman season, Honeycutt led the Heels in home runs (25), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.081), RBI (57), stolen bases and total bases (166).
The ACC tournament MVP, who set a Carolina single-season home run record, became the first Tar Heel to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season.
The first game of the five-game Stars vs. Stripes series between camp participants will take place at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary at 7 p.m. on June 30. The Durham Bulls Athletic Park will host games two (6:35 p.m., July 1), three (5:05 p.m., July 2) and four (6:35 p.m., July 3).
Training camp will conclude with the series finale at at 6:05 p.m. on July 4 at Truist Field in Charlotte. All five games can be streamed at USABaseball.com.
