UNC-Notre Dame live updates: Tar Heels looking for their first win ever in South Bend
North Carolina travels to face No. 11 Notre Dame looking for its first road win in 12 tries in Notre Dame Stadium. The Tar Heels (4-3) step outside of ACC play against the Fighting Irish (6-1) an aim to get consecutive wins for just the second time this season. Notre Dame chewed up nearly six minutes and ended its drive with a 21-yard field goal from Jonathan Doerer. UNC needs a miraculous comeback down 10 with 1:37 left in the game.

Sam Howell scrambled up the middle for a 31-yard score. Howell has 88 yards rushing for the game and he’s averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

Carolina avoided giving up a touchdown after the Irish reached the UNC 5. Jonathan Doerer kicked a 20-yard field goal. The drive was set up by a D.J. Brown interception.

Kyren Williams burst a 91-yard run when he reversed his field and gave a stiff-arm to Tomon Fox. Williams went untouched the rest of the way for the longest scoring play the Heels have allowed this season.

Sam Howell connected with Antoine Green for a 33-yard score as Notre Dame defenders couldn’t figure out who was supposed to cover him.

Notre Dame had its longest scoring drive of the game (11 plays, 81 yards) capped off by a Logan Diggs 1-yard touchdown plunge. Diggs has taken over at running back after starter and leading rusher Kyren Williams suffered a leg injury during the drive.

Notre Dame quarterback Jack Coan exploited Carolina’s pass coverage being out of position with a 21-yard scoring run. The Irish took just 58 seconds to answer the Heels’ scoring drive.

Carolina took its first lead in the game after a 53-yard touchdown run by Ty Chandler. It’s his second scoring run in the game on the Heels’ opening drive of the second half.

Carolina’s two-minute drill moved the ball to the Irish 9. But with no timeouts and seven seconds left, the Heels settled for a Grayson Atkins’ 26-yard field goal.

Carolina again hurt itself with an untimely penalty. UNC safety Trey Morrison was called for a facemask on a fourth-down play that ended with an incomplete pass. On the ensuing play, Kevin Austin caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jack Coan.

UNC had a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Sam Howell negated by a holding penalty on Marcus McKethan. Howell was dropped for a sack on third down leading to Grayson Atkins’ 38-yard field goal to tie the game.

The Irish moved the ball to the UNC 13, but the Tar Heels kept them out of the end zone. Jonathan Doerer kicked a 31-yard field goal to cap off their drive.

Ty Chandler’s 3-yard touchdown run was subject to review because he stepped out as he reached the ball out toward the goal line. The key play on the drive was a 41-yard catch by Josh Downs.

Avery Davis caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Buchner. The scoring drive was set up by 47-yard punt return by Kyren Williams.
