One NC State football defender is out for the season after suffering injury at UConn.
N.C. State is down another player just two weeks into the season.
Senior safety Jakeen Harris recently underwent surgery and will be out for the rest of the season, Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren said Monday.
Harris sustained a pectoral muscle tear during the third play of the game against UConn. The senior was listed on the Notre Dame depth chart, with hopes that he could return, but Harris was ultimately unable to play. The injury took place on a tackle.
“Prayers for Jakeen; a guy that works as hard as anybody in this locker room and was going to play a huge part in our defense this year,” Doeren said. “It always hurts losing the starter that has that much game experience.”
Harris will remain involved with team activities, serving in a player-coach role. He will have another year with the program.
Graduate student Rakeim Ashford is expected to return soon. Paramedics removed him from the season opener and took him to the hospital. He could return for the VMI matchup Saturday. If not, Doeren expects him to play against Virginia on Sept. 23.
The Wolfpack hosts the Keydets at 2 p.m. Saturday for the first time since 1946.
