N.C. State could be losing another key player.

Cam Hayes, a point guard from Greensboro, has entered the transfer portal.

247Sports was first to report the news and a university representative within athletics confirmed it.

The N.C State sophomore is the second player from his class to potentially transfer out of the Wolfpack program within a week, joining forward Jaylon Gibson.

Gibson and Hayes could both return to N.C. State if they choose. If they find a home elsewhere, that would leave forward Ebenezer Dowuona as the only member of Kevin Keatts’ class of 2020 still on the roster.

Shakeel Moore and Nick Farrar each transferred last offseason.

Raleigh native and senior Thomas Allen, who technically could have returned, also entered the portal.

Hayes took over the starting point guard duties late into his freshman season, starting 14 games, averaging 7.8 points per game.

As a sophomore, Hayes lost his starting job after 13 games and never looked like the same player. He only scored in double figures four times the rest of the season. He had five games where he went scoreless.

His best game of the season was a 16-point contest against rival North Carolina on Feb. 26. He scored a total of four points in the final three games of the season.

Dereon Seabron handled most of the ball-handling duties for N.C. State this season. Freshmen Terquavion Smith and Breon Pass and junior Casey Morsell are the only scholarship guards currently on the roster.

N.C. State signed Bull City Prep point guard L.J. Thomas in the class of 2022. There’s also speculation that 2023 five-star point guard Robert Dillingham could recommit to the class of 2022.
