NC State women’s basketball star Elissa Cunane returns to ACC title game after injury

N.C. State thought it might have to win a third straight ACC Tournament title without their best player in the second half.

Turns out, Elissa Cunane is as tough as she is good at basketball.

At the 6:40 mark of the third quarter, Cunane. the Wolfpack’s leading scorer and a senior, came down awkwardly on the floor. Television replays appeared to show her left ankle buckle awkwardly. She was slow to get up and limped off the court.

She got some medical attention to her left ankle on the bench before heading to the locker room area.

Cunane had a team-high 16 points at the time of her injury. She scored on a three-point play to make it 40-29 in favor of the Pack when she went down.

In the fourth quarter, sporting an ankle brace, Cunane returned to the bench area, rode a stationary bike briefly, and then checked back into the game with her team still comfortably in the lead.
