NC State basketball will be without forward Ebenezer Dowuona for Syracuse game
N.C. State will be without another post player Wednesday night against Syracuse.
Shortly before tip off, it was announced that sophomore big man Ebenerzer Dowuona would miss the game. Dowuona (6-11, 225) suffered a lower leg injury during Saturday’s game at UNC.
Dowuona scored three points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of action against the Tar Heels. Coming into Wednesday’s contest, Dowuona started the previous 21 games for N.C. State (10-12, 3-8).
He was thrust into the starting lineup after Manny Bates was lost for the year one minute into the season opener. That means the only available forwards for the Wolfpack against the Orange will be sophomore Jaylon Gibson and Jericole Hellems.
Freshman Ernest Ross, who was slowly working his way into the rotation, was lost for the year last month.
Gibson has zero starts in his short career and comes into Wednesday’s game averaging just 1.7 points. Head coach Kevin Keatts has used a small lineup this season with the 6-7 Hellems as the main post player.
Dowuona has only scored in double digits twice this season, 10 points at Duke and 10 points against Louisiana Tech.
