Severe weather forecast leads Duke football to move its spring game
Unstable spring weather has caused a change to Duke football’s spring practice schedule.
The Blue-White game at Wallace Wade Stadium will be played Friday at 8 p.m. because severe thunderstorms are forecast to hit central and eastern North Carolina on Saturday.
The game had originally been planned for 1 p.m. Saturday.
A cold front is expected to arrive early Saturday, dropping temperatures to the mid-70s on Saturday after they were in the mid-to-upper 80s Thursday and Friday, according to the News & Observer’s news-gathering partner, WTVD.
Coming off a 9-4 season in Mike Elko’s first season as head coach, Duke held its 13th spring practice Thursday morning.
“Our kids are ready to compete,” Duke offensive coordinator Kevin Johns said following Thursday’s practice. “There’s gonna be a lot of trash talking. They’re excited. They don’t want to lose their buddies so it will be a lot of fun.”
The Blue-White game is open to the public and admission is free.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and a pregame fan fest will be held from 7-8 p.m. on the practice fields behind the main scoreboard. The fan fest will include a football skills challenge, inflatable games, a bounce house and an obstacle course.
The first 4,000 fans will receive a free Duke football hat.
